Westcare Medical Centre Thornlie has strict guidelines on your confidentiality and how we handle your information, including but not limited to the following;-

• Consent for a 3rd party to obtain information
• Transferring health information
• Access and security of personal health information.
Westcare Medical Centre Thornlie strictly follows the “The National Privacy Principles Act and the Health Records and Information Act.”
Your Doctor or our Practice Nurse will attempt to contact you immediately via the contact details that you have supplied. If our attempts to contact you are unsuccessful, a letter will be forwarded to your address to contact us urgently for an appointment at our Thornlie Doctors Surgery.
Our Practice Nurse will contact you by text or phone to advise you to make an appointment to see your Doctor. If our attempts to contact you are unsuccessful, a letter will be forwarded to your address to contact us for an appointment.
If your results are normal we will not contact you. However, you are welcome to phone our Thornlie Doctor’s surgery on (08) 6186 6890 to check if your results have been received by us, but you will be asked to make an appointment to discuss these results. At no time are results provided to you over the phone due to confidentiality laws.
Patients are contacted for recalls and reminders. If our attempts at contact are unsuccessful, a letter will be forwarded to your address to contact us for an appointment.
(Confidential information is not included in these letters). All personal information is stored on a program-specific, encrypted computer database.
The practice is committed to supporting the doctors, nurses and administration staff to participate in on-going education.

As of 1st July 2022, Westcare Medical Centre Thornlie will transition to a mixed billing practice. The reality is that Medicare rebates do not cover the cost of providing you with a high-quality professional service. The fees charged by this practice must cover all our practice costs, including employing receptionists and practice nurses and meeting our operating expenses such as rent, medical equipment, electricity, computers and insurance. We are committed to providing the very best quality healthcare for our patients and pride ourselves in our commitment to deliver this.
We continue to bulk bill the following:
– 16 and under
– Over 65 Years
– All pension and concessional cardholders
(Except on weekends and public holidays)
